Old friends, dearest friends

This past weekend at White Plantation, the Academy of the Sacred Heart Class of l966 gathered to celebrate the 40th anniversary of our graduation. Out of a class of 34 girls, 15 women returned for many reasons, but most importantly to reconnect and share old memories, the happy ones, the sad ones, the funny and the ridiculous ones. And, we laughed and laughed, and even got teary-eyed once or twice, all in the company of those who know us so well.

Some old notions of each other still rang true, those that related to the essence of each of us, allowing us to still see each other as young 17-year-olds, unchanged over the years. And miraculously all the negative ones that tended to separate a class into cliques, had disappeared and each one of us relished being in the presence of classmates who had become more beautiful, more truly themselves than ever before.

Must it take 40 years to be able to see the beauty in each one of our classmates and to appreciate it with a gratitude that cannot be described in words? All I know is that our little house in the country will forever be blessed with the memory of the 15 girls from the class of '66 (Ginger, Maureen, Nicette, Peggy, Lynn, Helen, Lise, Nancy, Linda, Cathy, Cheryl, Patty, Marie, Liz, and Cathie) who stayed up late into the night remembering and reminiscing in the spirit of love and deep appreciation for each other.
